online tutoring NYC

From a young age with online tutoring NYC, students are taught that they need to take tests in order to determine if they’re succeeding or not in a subject.  These standardized tests are given to students from grades 3 to 8, and in High School as well.  Once a student reaches High School, they’ll take the ACT, which will help determine what university they’ll get accepted into.  If the time is coming for you to take these tests, here’s how you should prepare.

Become Familiar with the Structure and Format

The ACT is scored out of 36 points and consists of 4 multiple-choice sections (English, Math, Reading, and Science).  There is also an optional writing section, which isn’t factored into your composite score.  Here is what you can expect from the sections.

    1. English – 75 questions – 45 minutes
    2. Math – 60 questions – 60 minutes
    3. Reading – 40 questions – 35 minutes
    4. Science – 40 questions – 35 minutes
    5. Writing (optional) – 1 essay – 40 minutes

Identify Your Weaknesses

To figure out what area(s) you need to focus on, you should take practice tests.  The results will help you be familiar with the styling of the questions, but it will also show you what areas you need to study.  ACT tests will also give you subscores.  For instance, if you scored poorly in English, it will identify which sections you didn’t do well in, such as English Usage or Rhetorical Skills.
