What is the ISEE?

The Independent School Entrance Exam, (The ISEE) is an academic exam that’s measures the ability of students wanting to attend independent elementary or secondary schools. It also gives the schools in question, the understanding of whether a pupil is eligible for admission.

The ISEE offers three levels of the test aimed towards students between the fifth and twelfth grades.

  • Lower Level Exam: This is for the application of students in the fifth and sixth grade.
  • Middle Level Exam: This is for the application of students in the seventh and eighth grade.
  • Higher Level Exam: This is for the application of students between the ninth and twelfth grade.

Please note, there is now an exam readily available for students between the second and fourth grade, however the format differs greatly from the other exams.

The ISEE test is divided into five sections. The first four sections of the exam are marked on a scale of 1-9, which also includes verbal reasoning. The fifth section of the test, is an essay, which is not officially marked. Instead it is sent to admission directors for their review.

What is Considered a Good Score on the ISEE?

The question on every parent’s lips is, “what is considered a good score?”

It is a question which is both easy and difficult to answer. Regarding the immediate results of the ISEE, a score of five or more, was usually diazipam online enough for a student to be considered at a top school. There is also an expression that exclaims, “with a four, you are in the door,” which suggests a good ISEE score can also be as low as a four.

Another factor to consider, is the child´s average previous test scores, for example, ERB, CTP4 & STAR tests. These test scores do not tie any relation to the ISEE test as it is a unique exam, with unique questions.

The purpose of the ISEE exams is to see who is considered “exceptional” or “incredibly bright.” The test highlights students who have way above average, verbal, reading and math abilities. The most average score in the USA are results that lie between four and six on the scale.

Students who attend schools with a low priority on math programs, tend to struggle on the math questions. In comparison, students who place higher importance on math, usually perform better. All students however, see huge increases in their test results with the help of a private tutor.
