School, at any level, is a rather bizarre environment. Most students fall into one of a relatively small series of categories. There are those who just simply don’t care at all about their classes, put forth zero effort, and ultimately fail everything. There are those who have some kind of natural brilliance to them, affording them the luxury to pass all their courses with minimal effort. And then, there’s the rest, who fall somewhere in between the two extremes. The chances are your child is part of the latter category. And it’s those from this category who stand to benefit the most from Big Apple’s exclusive tutors.

For the majority of students, studying and focus is necessary. Paying attention in class and putting in the hours at home to understand new and complex concepts is a part of growing up. But even with the right attitude, those who lack the necessary organization skills still have a steep hill ahead of them to climb in order to earn the grades that they want and deserve. Organization, quite simply, is the lifeblood of any successful academic performance. Here are all the ways that helping your child with his or her organization will lead to success not just in school, but in life.

Following Directions

A student who can follow directions effectively must do two things. First, the student has to listen to and comprehend what the instructor is asking of him or her. Secondly, the student has to convert what the instructor just said into action. On paper it sounds easy, but it actually requires a fair share of mental exercise. And not every kid, or even adult, is particularly good at it. But those who are usually end up being the leaders of the group. The best way to develop skills in following directions is to develop skills in staying organized. If your child can figure out how to approach new information in a calculated, organized manner, by either writing it down or thinking critically enough to visualize how to actually make it happen, then he or she will make for not just a valuable student, but a future valuable employee.

Reading Skills

Organization is more than putting the right papers in the right folders. Organization refers to how a person thinks. It’s as much putting papers in folders as it is putting letters and words in the correct compartments of the brain. By teaching your child to think in a more organized fashion, he or she will develop better reading skills faster. Because he or she will be able to more effectively distinguish the basic rules of English grammar. For example, your child will have an easier time knowing the difference between capital and lowercase letters, commas, periods, paragraphs, etc. This all starts with the right way of thinking.

Math Skills

Similarly to reading, learning math involves understanding the differences and relationships between a wide variety of symbols. Math is a series of rules. The more organized a thinker that a person is, the more easily he or she will understand complex concepts in mathematics.
