Some people think that learning only involves reading, memorizing, and taking tests.  Although it’s important, it’s not the only way to learn.  At Big Apple Tutoring LLC, our private tutor NYC also stresses the importance of creativity.  When teachers and parents encourage their children to be creative, it helps them develop other important life skills, such as: out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving, allows them to express themselves, encourages them to be life-long learners, and even reduces stress and anxiety.  (Related topics: private tutoring NYC, academic tutoring NYC)

As you can see, it’s important that your child gets to express themselves through arts and crafts.  Although they may be doing so in school, it never hurts to get creative at home as well.  Since we’re in the month of November, you should consider making Thanksgiving crafts.

Thanksgiving Craft Ideas:

  1. Thankful Tree – All you need for this project is a small branch, leaves made out of paper, and glue.  Have your child write what they’re thankful for on the leaves and glue them onto the branch.  You can then use this as fun fall decor in your home.
  2. Handprint Turkey – Have your child trace their hand on a piece of paper and cut it out; this will be the feathers of their turkey.  They can then glue the cut-out on a pre-prepared head and body.
  3. Fingerprint Tree – On a piece of paper, have them draw the trunk of a tree.  Then, using paint, have them make the leaves of the tree with paint fingerprints.
  4. Apple Turkeys – The best part of this craft is that it’s also edible.  The base of their turkey should be an apple, with a large marshmallow as their face, and raisins for the eyes.  They should then use toothpicks and gum candy or candy corn to create feathers and attach them to the apple.
  5. Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats – This is another delicious craft that your kids will love.  To make this, make rice krispies as usual, except add orange food coloring.  Before they are completely cooled, form them into balls about the size of a baseball.  Next, add the stem (pretzel) on the top and the leaves (green fondant).

Whether it’s Thanksgiving or any other part of the year, don’t be afraid to get creative with your children.  Our private tutor NYC can also create fun activities that will encourage your children to think outside the box.
