homeschooling in Manhattan

Schools throughout the United States are currently closed due to COVID-19.  It’s important that even during this difficult situation, however, that children are maintaining their routine to continue their education.  If your child gets behind in classroom lessons during this time, they may not be prepared for future classroom activities.  For that reason, you will need to become their homeschool tutors NYC throughout this time.  We have put together some homeschooling in Manhattan tips so that your child can successfully continue their education from home.

Set Up a Learning Space

There are no strict guidelines for what your learning space should be; the important thing is that your child has a dedicated area where they can focus on learning.  No matter what space you dedicate to learning, try to limit distractions, such as the television or cell phones.

Create a Structure

You and your child should have an organized schedule to follow; you might even want to follow your child’s normal school routine.  Although you have flexibility in how you want to structure your day, make sure to create a plan that will meet your weekly goals.

Help Your Child, but Encourage Them to Do Things Themselves

If your child is struggling with a certain topic or question, you can always make suggestions and answer their questions, but make sure you are encouraging them to figure things out themselves.  If you give them all of the answers without teaching them how to solve the problem, it won’t help them learn.  There may be times that you don’t know the answer either; take that as an opportunity for you and your child to work through the problem together.

Have Fun

You want to follow a plan, but don’t be afraid to include fun activities for your child.  As long as you are following the lesson plan, you can add hands-on activities to keep your child engaged.  Remember that even when they’re at school, their teachers will include breaks and fun activities to help them to learn, so there’s no harm in you doing it while homeschooling in Manhattan.

You may feel like you’re unprepared for homeschooling in Manhattan, but if you follow these steps, you and your child will have a great experience.  If your child has a difficult time returning to school after this epidemic ends, one of our private tutor NYC can assist in the process.
