This past semester may have been difficult, as many children were homeschooled due to the situation.  This caused many parents to hire private tutor NYC or even do the homeschooling themselves.  Although there were many changes, we all learned to live with the situation.  Now that schools are reopening, however, it may be relieving to many parents.

What do you do, though, if your child started class and came home upset about their assigned teacher? They may not like them because they’re not as fun as they wish or it could just be a personal preference.  If this happens, there are some ways to improve the situation.

Keep Your Opinions to Yourself

When you saw the teacher’s name on the syllabus, you may have been disappointed as well.  Feelings aside, the worst thing you can do is express your feelings to your child.  If they see your disappointment or hear you talking about how they’re not a good teacher, they’ll probably follow your lead.  Instead, try to stay positive.

Listen to Your Child

Even if you don’t give any feedback, it’s important to listen to your child.  Most importantly, ask them why they don’t like the teacher.  When they give you an answer, try to come up with a plan with your child.  For example, if they don’t like that the teacher never incorporates hands-on activities, you may want to surprise your child with some fun learning games at home.  If they feel like their teacher doesn’t ever answer their questions, you can either spend extra time helping them with their homework or hire a private tutor NYC.

Schedule a Meeting with the Teacher

It may improve the situation to schedule a meeting with the teacher.  During this meeting, you can discuss expectations, classroom behavior, education, and areas that your child is struggling with.  By having this open communication with the teacher, it can help your child feel more comfortable with them.

If your child is disappointed in their teacher, remember to stay positive.  They may be frustrated, but you can do little things to remind them that they’re appreciated, like playing educational games with them and reminding them of their past achievements.  This is important so that your child continues to love learning, even if they’re having a difficult time in class.  If they need additional study help, you can take them to academic tutoring NYC.
